Less than a week into 2025, ReCraft has THREE big projects underway:

1. Show support for new teachers in Greenville — and declutter your supply closet at the same time! The Teacher RE-Supply Drive is next week, Jan 15-18.

2. Students, show your creativity for a chance to win earn cash prizes! The Trash Fashion Design Challenge is open until Feb 7th.

Finally, visitors to the shop will notice we’re moving things around — for example, the Floral and “Free for Teachers” displays are now along the main spine, near Fabric. In 2025 we’re reorganizing the shop to make displays better organized — and make room for some good ol’ fashioned whimsy too (like a secret cave). We’d love to hear your feedback!

Teacher Re-Supply Drive

Declutter and help teachers end the year strong!

Box up your gently-used office supplies and bring them to ReCraft! All classroom and office supplies donated through Saturday 1/18 will be distributed completely free of charge to first-year GCS teachers* to restock their classrooms.

The school year is only half over, but teacher supply closets are already running on empty — especially for young teachers new in their careers. Please join ReCraft in welcoming these new teachers to Greenville and to the profession of teaching.

The most useful classroom items include: copy paper, dry erase markers, erasers, pencils, pens, markers, notebooks and notepads, post-its, sharpies, scissors, and swag (branded items make great classroom rewards!).

Empty your office’s supply closet! Start the year fresh by cleaning out your office’s unused supplies. Just bring your donation ReCraft and we’ll take care of the rest.

*This project specifically benefits 370 Greenville County Schools teachers in their first two years of teaching. (“Induction Program” teachers have been notified by their district coordinator.) All collections will be given away during a special event on MLK Day for participating teachers.

2025 Trash Fashion Design Contest

THE CHALLENGE: This January, design something to wear made entirely out of found, repurposed, and recyclable materials — aka “trash.” The sky's the limit. Show us your design creativity!

What materials can be used? Everything at ReCraft (2439 Laurens Road) is secondhand and therefore eligible for use! Get started with a free bag fabric scraps at ReCraft! (See the special display near the blue bulk bins.)

NEW in 2025: Featured Material! The 2025 Challenge includes a new design parameter: to use a blue medical apron within their designs. These aprons — Covid-era surplus — are available for free at ReCraft on a special display near the blue bulk bins. Note, the featured material isn’t required to enter or win.

Cash Prizes! ReCraft will give away more than $1,000 in cash prizes to 17 GCS students and their art teachers. And all finalists will get to participate in our once-a-year Trash Fashion Showcase on Friday, February 21.

The Trash Fashion Design Challenge is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission. The purpose of this publicly-funded project is to strengthen design thinking skills in public schools, reaching students with unique materials and innovative curriculum. Please note, due to funding requirements this year’s competition is not open to students at charter schools, private schools, or homeschools.
